Answers

1. Why was the COMPASS Performance Dashboard developed?
To make your life easier! The COMPASS Performance Dashboard tracks data for goals set in the long-range transportation plan, Communities in Motion 2040. This highlights goals including transportation, housing, health, the economy, and more.

2. Who is the intended audience?
COMPASS built the Performance Dashboard to bring data to the fingertips of anyone who wants it, especially planners, decision-makers, and the media. Public, private, and non-profit agencies should use the Performance Dashboard for assistance with grant applications, to better understand market needs, and to make important decisions for the community.

3. Why is the Performance Dashboard not showing up on my phone/tablet?
The COMPASS Performance Dashboard uses Flash technology, which is not compatible with many mobile devices. We are currently working on a solution that will make the Performance Dashboard functional on mobile devices; we apologize for the inconvenience as we work on this update.

4. Do you have any training materials available?
Basic training materials are available on the COMPASS Performance Dashboard webpage. If you need more assistance, one-on-one help, or would like to schedule a training designed specifically for your organization, please contact Eric Adolfson at eadolfson@compassidaho.org, or (208) 475-2245. For basic instructions on using the Performance Dashboard, click here.

5. Who should I contact if I need help using the Performance Dashboard?
For general inquiries about the COMPASS Performance Dashboard uses, history, and information, contact Carl Miller, at cmiller@compassidaho.org or (208) 475-2239. For specific information about data available used to build the Performance Dashboard, or for step-by-step instructions, please contact Brett Sergenian, bsergenian@compassidaho.org, or (208) 475-2246.

6. Where can I go for more information on the Performance Dashboard data?
COMPASS develops the Change in Motion report, which tracks the region’s progress toward implementing the long-range transportation plan for Ada and Canyon Counties. To see current and past Change in Motion reports, click here.

7. Can I expand the map to make it larger and easier to work in?
The COMPASS Performance Dashboard is embedded in the COMPASS website in order to preserve easy access to more COMPASS information. While this does limit the size of the Performance Dashboard window, each web page has content that depicts its Communities in Motion goal and current measurements. To create a personalized view and work directly with the data available, click here.

8. Can I download data from the Performance Dashboard?
Yes. Under “Tools,” select “Add Data Table” to choose the data you are interested in. To download it as a csv file, right-click and select “Export CSV”.”  Name the file with “.csv” at the end, and save it to your computer.

9. Can I resize the graph/legend? It looks “squished” and is hard to read.
Yes. To resize the graph/legend, use your mouse and drag the borders of the window to resize.

10. Is there a way to save my work on the Performance Dashboard so I can resume working on it later?
Yes. For help saving your work, click here.

11. My graph/legend suddenly disappeared while I was using the Performance Dashboard.  How do I retrieve it?
The graph/legend has been hidden behind the map. To retrieve it, minimize the map so that you can see  the graph/legend. In the graph/legend window, click on the icon that looks like two overlapping squares and select “always above.” When this is selected, the graph/legend will always be displayed above the map.

12. I don’t understand what the geometry layer and data table titles refer to. How can I get help? For example, what does “PName” mean?
A geometry and data table field name dictionary is currently being written to assist the end user with understanding each dataset. We apologize for the confusion; if you need assistance with the Performance Dashboard, please contact Brett Sergenian at bsergenian@compassidaho.org, or (208) 475-2246.

13. What if information that I need isn’t on the Performance Dashboard?
There may be data that has not yet been entered on the Performance Dashboard, but that can be shared another way. Knowing our audience, and their needs, helps COMPASS determine the data that is needed so that it can be made available on the Performance Dashboard. To get additional data, please contact Eric Adolfson at eadolfson@compassidaho.org, or (208) 475-2245.

14. I have information that should be on the Performance Dashboard, what can I do?
The COMPAS Performance Dashboard was designed to be a one-stop-shop for data needs, and would like to host additional datasets if they meet our criteria. If you have data that would be valuable for COMPASS to share, please contact Carl Miller, at cmiller@compassidaho.org or (208) 475-2239.

15. I think there may be an error on the Performance Dashboard – what should I do?
If you think you may have found an error, please contact Eric Adolfson at eadolfson@compassidaho.org, or (208) 475-2245 for further discussion and to resolve the problem.
