Products & Services - Communities in Motion 2035 UPDATE

Communities in Motion is the Treasure Valley's regional long-range transportation plan. The current plan (http://www.communitiesinmotion.org/plandocuments.html) was adopted in August 2006 and must be updated by August 2010. The process to update the plan is underway.

What will the Treasure Valley look like in 25 years?

How will our population grow? Where will the jobs be? What type of roads will we use? What other transportation options (buses, trains, bike paths, etc.) will be available? Communities in Motion 2035 looks 25 years into the future to answer these questions and plan for transportation needs.

Why is a transportation plan developed?

To help ensure our roads, bridges, and transportation services (buses, etc.) are ready for the future, a regional long-range transportation plan is developed every four years. Planning helps prioritize projects based on public input and how the region is likely to grow. In addition, a plan is required to receive federal highway funds.

What does this mean to me?

The plan will affect how and where transportation funds are spent in the valley, which will affect you and your community for many years to come.

However, there isn't enough money to pay for everything that is planned. We need your input to help prioritize how money should be spent.

How long will this take?

Developing, or even simply updating, a plan such as this is a lengthy process. Work on the update began in January 2009. The plan must be updated by August 2010.

Many tasks need to be done and many milestones must be reached on time to ensure the plan will be completed on schedule. Below is a list of many of the larger plan components and when they are schedule.

How can I be involved?

There are many ways you can be involved in the update of the plan:

Three open houses were held in October 2009 to share information on the plan update and receive feedback from Treasure Valley citizens:

  • Meridian, October 15, 2009
  • Nampa, October 20, 2009
  • Boise, October 21, 2009

Materials displayed at the open houses are provided by clicking here. If you have questions or comments on any of the materials, contact Amy Luft at aluft@compassidaho.org or 208/855-2558 x 231.
